the Sheff fam (Beth and David et al) has been doing "Buy nothing Christmas" for the past few years, it's been fun for me (a wannabe sheffrat) to tag along in the journey... it's included starting a "christmas dinner on christmas day" (for people who don't have a family/meal of their own on Christmas) and such gems as "I'm making you jogging pants for christmas, can I borrow the ones you're wearing to make a pattern?" and "I bought you soap and bubble bath, but I knit you the bag it's in". Along the way we've done collages and fed babies I love B.N.C.
